Then follow this simple 3 step process to set up your blog the right way.
-
Select your hosting plan.
Setting up a WordPress blog on Siteground requires you to purchase web hosting for your blog.
Web hosting is simply a space on the internet that you pay for that allows your blog to be found online. Put simply, it is like a space that you rent to have your blog in, similar to a piece of real estate property for a physical business, except it is way cheaper than renting physical space.
Typically, good web hosting services cost about $10 a month. With Siteground, you can start at $3.95 per month.
Here are some facts to be aware of before you dive in:
- In order to get the super low price for web hosting you need to choose the Start-Up Plan
- Also, in order to get your Siteground web hosting for only $3.95 monthly and get yourself a free domain, you will need to pay upfront for an entire year. This will only cost you less than $100. (P.S I spent $0 on my web hosting last year in order to start my blog and I now make almost $3000 per month on this blog. The money I spent on hosting was well worth it!)
- If you can afford more than just the basic web hosting package, check Domain Privacy Protection. This will help protect your personal information such as your name, address and telephone number.
- Also, if you can afford it, check Hack Alert, so that you will have the best possible protection from hackers.
- If you forgo all add-ons, your web hosting will cost about $50 for your first year. If you select hack alert and domain privacy, you will pay about $75 for your first year.
- To complete this process on Site ground, Click on the blue ‘order now’ button to select your plan and move to the next step (as shown in the image below).
-
Pick a domain name.
A domain name is a web address that helps people find you on the internet. For example, my domain name was previously www.sheblogsaboutjobs.com. I recently changed it to www.smartnancials.com
Before choosing your domain name/blog name, check out this helpful post for guidelines to help you come up with a great blog name in minutes.

Wow! I can’t believe you only launched in 2016! How did you get you first traffic?
Hi Suzi! my first traffic came from facebook groups and stumble upon (Click for click). I came to realize quickly that this was not ‘valuable’ traffic and so, I started focusing on Pinterest and SEO. I have not looked back ever since. Do you have a blog?
Yes, and if you have time and are so inclined, I’d love to show it to you! The URL is http://o-Susannah.com. I’d appreciate any comments you might share!
Sure! I have looked at your blog and left some feedback 🙂
Thank you for such an inspirational & motivational post… 🙂
Thanks Chrissy! I’m glad my post has inspired you! 🙂
I would love to join siteground and pursue blogging since I’m already in my 4th year in college as an IT student but I’m just not sure on what type of niche should I focus on since I’m into fashion and beauty and lifestyle but I kind of want to include my focus field into one blog. Do you think it’s possible? I have a blog btw, it’s really inactive as of the moment since I only made that for a school requirement but planning to continue the blog. I’m just confused. Hope I’ll get a response. I’m so eager to continue blogging. here’s my blog url http://www.xantans.wordpress.com I really want to become a blogger.
Hi Xavien! Thanks so much for reaching out to me! I definitely think you can incorporate both fashion, beauty, lifestyle and IT in your blog. You would only need to have different categories to suit the various topics you want to cover on your blog. I personally don’t believe that you NEED to niche down in order to have a successful blog!
I had a look at your current blog and from reading your About page, it seems like you’ve tried various niches that you’ve eventually grown out of.
Therefore, if you do decide to blog, I would advise you to pick a domain name that isn’t very niche, so that not only can you discuss beauty, fashion, lifestyle and IT, but, you can also blog about more topics of interest as you grow and find new things that you really enjoy.
Hope this helps!
If you still need help, feel free to reach out again!
Hi yandra, hope you are doing fine.
It’s mentioned that you are getting paid for traffic? Traffic equates to monies? Or is it the ads visitors click on? I don’t get this part.
Hi Muhammad! I’m doing great and I hope you are too!
Like you said, every time my ads are shown to someone, I make some money from it. Therefore, the more traffic I get to my blog, the more money I make.
I also, get paid when people use my ‘affiliate links’ to purchase or sign up for certain products or services mentioned on my blog. Therefore, the more people visit my blog, the higher my chances of getting some of them to purchase products or services I link to.
I hope you understand. If not, send me an email and I will gladly chat more with you!
