An Overview Of The Month Of October

October is finally over and I’m back with my second income report in Month two of blogging.

This post may contain affiliate links. Please read my disclaimer for more information.

Why I’m Blogging My Income & Traffic Reports

When I created this blog, it was to show people how to make money online through online jobs, online businesses, blogs, websites and so on. What better way to do that than to allow them to see me doing it right along with them, right?

1. I want to be able to document the growth of my blog.

2. I want people to see that it is possible to make money from their blogs and ultimately create a better life with more choices for themselves and their loved ones.

3. I love to write, so I will take the opportunity to write anything!

Plus it’s all the rave these days and everyone’s doing it! Just kidding! I’m not one to follow the crowd, but I am particularly interested in making money and sharing my experiences trying to do so online.

4. The main aim of my income and traffic reports is so that someone somewhere can learn something from this and create a better life for themselves by starting a blog too if that’s what interests them, but they’ve been afraid to take the leap!

So, if you’re that someone who would like to create your own blog, I created a detailed step by step guide on how to setup a blog in 30 minutes or less with SiteGround. If you use my link, you can receive a 60% discount and start blogging for just $3.95 per month (unbeatable value!!!). I recently learned that it is really possible to make money from a blog and I am determined to do this right and have a super successful blog. I would love for you to join me along the way!

I am super excited to share my income and traffic report for my second month of blogging (October 2016). I had quite a bit of fun this month getting to know and interact with new people, learning new things and getting a chance to be creative and do something I enjoy!

I notice that many bloggers start income and traffic reports when their blog actually starts to make money, rather than when they first start their blog. I get this since

1. Many bloggers start their blogs with no idea that they can even generate an income from it,or with no desire to even do so.

2. Some do not even know the concept of a blog income and traffic report when they first start out blogging.

But, I do, and I want to be different and share the progress of my blog from the very beginning rather than from when it starts to actually make progress.

I’m Sharing My Income And Traffic Reports To Keep You And Me Motivated!

Here’s what I think

I suspect that many people who start blogging quit before really giving it a chance because they don’t seem to see much progress in terms of traffic and income in the first few months of blogging (month 1-3) and so blogging seems useless to them.

Moreover, many people don’t see bloggers ‘like them’ who aren’t making much money and getting much traffic as yet. After all, the blogosphere is filled with income and traffic reports from bloggers who choose to share their income and traffic reports when they ‘look better’ .

There is absolutely nothing wrong with that at all. But this blog is about helping the newbies, like me see full, unedited progress and pitfalls from day one.

I share this in the hope that it will keep newbies motivated and let them see that they aren’t doing anything wrong, they are merely learning and progressing at a typical pace.

Also, if you’re not yet a blogger, I hope my income and traffic reports, as well as all my other juicy articles for newbie bloggers, will help you build up the courage to start your own profitable blog as you see that anything is possible with it no matter what your stats are in the beginning. It will get better, way better, if you do the right things consistently.

A Few Highlights

Hurricane Mattew happened. That was a major distraction for me because I ended up not being able to work for two days (due to lack of internet connection)

I broke my website once again. This time I was trying to install a new theme, which I thought was pretty simple. Luckily, I did not lose any information since I was able to restore my website. However, I did lose some traffic reports in google analytics.

After my website broke and I restored it, I was unaware (for a full day) that my Google Analytic Tracking Code had been removed from my blog with me changing themes and restoring my blog. About 1 day later, I realized that I was getting absolutely no traffic. I started to research and learned that a missing tracking code could be my issue. I checked and sure enough, my Google Analytics tracking code was gone.

As you can see in the image below, no activity was recorded or tracked on my blog on October 14th, due to my missing tracking code.

Again, on the 15th of October, I had another issue with my tracking code. This time, all I can recall doing was making the recommended updates to my plugins and theme. However, sometime during the day, my tracking code got removed again :(. Between 8:00 am -3:00 pm no activity was recorded as can be seen in the image.

This has taught me a lesson that I’d like to pass on to you. Always look to see if your tracking code is installed, and if your numbers look strange, do not ignore.

Overall, October was great and I learned a lot!

As you may know, this blog was launched on September 1st, 2016 and this is my second income and traffic report.

As you can imagine, I am still figuring things out and getting a feel for what’s to come in terms of work, ideas and so on.

Here is a recap of my previous income and traffic report:

My Goals For October 2016: Was I successful Or Not?

Goal #1: Get 6000 page views

I set a goal to get 6000 page views by the end of October

Unsuccessful

I received 4316 page views for my second month blogging

second income report

Goal #2: Make Pinterest My #1 source of traffic

I wanted Pinterest to be my number #source of traffic because I thought this type of traffic was the most valuable out of all other social media platforms

Failed

Facebook Groups remain my #1 source of traffic and I found a way to make this traffic ‘organic’

Goal #3: Participate in Facebook Groups for a maximum of two hours daily.

Failed

Although I did cut down on the time I spent participating in certain ‘threads’ in facebook groups, I found myself spending more time in facebook groups, but in a surprisingly constructive way that helped me to grow my blog traffic.

You can find out more about this here.

Goal #4: Make $275 on my blog ($60 from ad networks, $150 for web hosting and $75 from guest posting)

Failed (kinda)

Income

Google Adsense: $65.89

Web hosting: $0.00

Guest posting: $0.00 (Although I have the guest posts written, I can’t seem to convince myself that my post is good enough to be sent to a ‘bigger’ website)

Jaxxy Affiliate: $80.00

Total income: $145.89

Expenses

Web Hosting: $3.95

Tailwind: $15

Total Expenses: $18.95

Net income: $126.94

Goal#5: Publish 16 blog posts

MAJORLY Unsuccessful

I only published 4 posts + 2 freebies in my free resource library

P.S- I did not set out to create a free resource library in October, but I started to receive an influx of ‘valuable traffic’ after publishing and promoting my first income report. Therefore, in the first week of October, I set out to create a ‘freebie opt-in’ so that I could ‘capture’ email subscribers.

I spent most of week one and half of week two in October trying to figure out how to create my free resource library plus, trying to create the ‘freebies’ in the resource library. This is one of the main reasons why I was unable to create publish all the posts that I set out to publish. I was off track from the beginning of the month and it was very difficult to get back on track after that.

Goal #6: Purchase and install a theme

Failed

I have seen a few themes that I really like, but I haven’t taken the plunge and purchased yet

Goal #7: Guest Post twice

Failed

I have written the guest posts, but I haven’t submitted them

Goal#8: Get 50 email subscribers

Failed

I got 41 email subscribers in October

Goal #9: social media stats

Failed

Pinterest Goal: 400 followers by the end of October

Failed

309 followers (up by +98 followers fin October)

Facebook Goal: 150 fans

Failed

What actually happened: 31 fans (up by 4+ fans in October )

Goal #10: Work on e-book for 24 hours

Successful

I did that. I spent more than 24 hours working on my e-book and I am super happy with how it’s coming along.

Goal 11# Comment on 30 niche bloggers blogs

Successful

I did that as well, although I only started commenting towards the end of October.

You might like this bonus I’ve made just for you. If you’re new to blogging or looking to increase traffic you really need to check it out. This month, I reveal a simple ‘trick’ that helped me get valuable traffic to my blog from facebook groups.

What do you think of my accomplishments this month? Let me know in the comment below.

Takeaways From October 2016

I like to set goals (for accountability and focus). I did not accomplish all my goals for the month of October but I super happy with my progress.

At the beginning of every month, I will set some and we will see if I accomplish them! I will outline my goals for November at the end of this post.

But First, For The Takeaways from September

What I Plan To Adjust

Pinterest

In the beginning of October, I stated that I would make Pinterest my #1 source of traffic. This did not happen because I accidentally fell on an awesome trick to get traffic from facebook and I was hooked for the month of October. You can learn more by reading my series called ‘Everything I Did To Get Traffic In Month Two’ here.

Although Facebook was good in terms of traffic this month, I can’t help but think that I could have gotten even more traffic if I had been consistent with Pinterest.

In November, I will dedicate 1 hour daily to growing my Pinterest traffic.

 What I Did In October

  • Scheduled my pins sporadically, when I felt like I had the time (not good guys)

What I Plan To Do In November

  • Set aside an hour every weekend to schedule all my pins for the week ahead. I use a scheduling tool called Tailwind to make this process easier. You can get a free trial for a full month here.

Facebook Groups

What I did in October.

Spent a good 3 hours browsing through facebook group daily. I know I said that I would cut down on the amount of time I spent in Facebook Groups in my first income and traffic report, but, I have a very good reason why I spent this much time in Facebook Groups in October. You can find out more about this here.

What I will do in November

Spend the same amount of time in facebook groups but do things a bit differently. Meaning, I will

  • Create better, more catchy headlines for my posts to get more visits to my blog
  • Write more intriguing post descriptions
  • Create more eye-catching images

income-and-traffic-report-2

3. Participate in Facebook Groups for a maximum of 3 hours daily.

4. Make $200 on my blog

  • $70 from Ad Networks
  • $50 from SiteGround web hosting
  • $80 from Guest Posting/Affiliates

5. Publish 8 blog posts (each 1500 + words)

7. Guest Post two (2) times

8. Get 50 more email subscribers

9. Get 400 Pinterest followers

10. Spend 24 hours in this month (1 hour a day) working on my first e-book.

11. Comment on 30 niche related bloggers blogs

12. Get 50 facebook likes

My overall aim in November will be to complete more of the goals that I set for myself

Will I achieve these goals at the end of November? Stick around to find out how I’m doing!!

I’d love to know what your blog goals are for November. Share with me in the comments below!

You’re doing really impressively well – particularly for a new blogger! Like, I know you made a point about sharing it even when it’s nitty and gritty, but like… seriously. Almost clearing $150 is amazing for an industry where most people struggle to get to $1.50. Keep at it! It’s super inspiring!

Hi Dan. You are right, most of my traffic is from facebook group. I have joined a handful of them that allow you to promote your blog post on the facebook wall rather than regular threads and this has been very instrumental in helping me get page views from people who actually are interested in my posts. You should check out my free resource library where I speak about this in-depth and also list the facebook groups I am a part of.

OK.. What do you mean by earning from guest posting? Do other blogs pay you for guest post? So you get paid as well as backlink?

Isn’t it the other way round, correct me if I’m wrong. I heard you have to pay them to get published.

And if they pay, how do you find those ‘big websites’??

As you can see I’m pretty naive to this concept. TIA 🙂

      Hi Ashi!

Some websites will pay you money for your post. If you do choose to opt for cash, you won’t receive a backlink though since the post is then owned by them. Here is a list of some who pay. I’ve been looking into the first for a while now :-)http://www.smartnancials.com/places-to-write-online/

There are also others who will only provide you with a mention and backlink.
