What is blogging?
To be honest, there are tons of definitions of blogging.
However, if I were asked to explain what it is in the simplest way possible, I’d say this:
Blogging is the sharing of ideas with the world via a website in the form of articles.
I’m sure you’ve searched for something on Google or Pinterest and landed on a page (i.e a website) which contains articles and tons of other related topics.
This type of website is a blog and the owner of it is likely making money from this blog! As can you if you so choose.
A little about why I started my blog (as you can see, I love backstories haha)
I started my blog as a means to speak more on being smart about money. I want to educate more people on ways to make money, great ways to save and the importance of investing in cash flowing assets.
Another reason why I started my blog was as a way to help me make extra money on the side while being able to care for my family at home.
Here are some reasons many people start blogging:
1. As a hobby:
Some people start blogging mainly as a hobby. After all, getting to write about things you love and being able to reach a wide audience of like-minded people who love to read and engage with your content is a very fulfilling feeling.
2. To help others:
Blogging by nature is a way to help others regardless of the blogging topic one chooses. As human beings, we see most things in a unique way and blogging is a great way to share one’s unique perspective in the hopes of helping other people out.
Backstory alert!
For about 3 years of my life, I was absolutely broke. Like seriously broke with very little money in the bank and no job. I could not find a job and even if I could, I didn’t want one. I had read an awesome book called ‘Rich Dad Poor Dad, and this transformed the way I looked at money. It also helped me understand that there were many different ways of making money (without a deadbeat job) and I was determined to never work in the corporate setting again!
Although this period was filled with emotional and mental growth, I consider it one of the hardest times of my life. Struggling to make ends meet for months on end is a terrible feeling and I know what it was like.
Until I started to look online for ways to make money, I was in a rut.
This is why I vowed that one of my missions in life would be to help others find ways of making extra income online.
This is why I blog about ways to make money online, ways to save more and smart ways to invest in cash flowing assets. I fully believe in time and financial freedom and so I believe many people can achieve this by earning a living online (or at least starting a side business or jobs online)
3. As a source of monthly income:
Many people don’t seem to realize this, but a blog is actually an AMAZING source of monthly income if done right. Many stay at home moms or young entrepreneurs blog and make more than average people with corporate jobs make.
Indeed, many bloggers I know have started their blog’s with the main aim of building it up to a comfortable monthly income. Mainly so that they can leave their 9-5 job and be able to stay at home with their family while earning a great income.
If you’re wanting to become a stay at home parent who still contributes financially to the running of your household, then blogging is definitely something worth looking into.
4. To grow a business:
Yes! A blog can become a super profitable business. It has the potential to earn you unlimited amounts of money every month. There are bloggers who make anywhere from $0- $100, 000+ per month. This is not an exaggeration.
The best part about all this is that if your blog is a business and you’re blogging on a topic you are passionate about, then you have achieved the ultimate business!
There can literally be no better feeling than sharing what you love and making great money doing it!
5. To make passive income that you can later invest in other passionate ventures:
Many times blogging is used as a vehicle to actually start working on other ventures that one is truly passionate about.
For instance, many start blogging as a way of growing and creating a name for themselves online. They later use their online influence as a way to easily become reputable published writers and authors. An example of a blogger who has done this is Pam Slim of Escape From Cubicle Nation who published the book Escape From Cubicle Nation: From Corporate Prison To Thriving Entrepreneur.
In my own personal case, I plan to use my blogging income to start building cash flowing real estate in the future. I know of other bloggers who are planning to do the same. Whatever other business venture you want to undertake in the future, starting a blog and using the income from it to invest in your dream business venture is an awesome possibility and something bloggers do all the time!
6. To promote brick and mortar businesses:
Believe it or not, there are thousands of blogs out there with the main purpose of promoting the products/services they offer in their brick and mortar business. This is a great way to raise awareness for your business.
7. To raise awareness of an issue/issues:
Many times people start blogging mainly to sensitize others of issues that need to be addressed.
